LJL- JOURNEY OF AN OBJECT

Part 1

Context and Design Situations-

The form of the object is important for the functionality of an object.

Reflecting on Teamwork

  • Teamwork helps in being motivated for the project throughout.

  • It is important to keep in check with every team member so that they are updated with the project otherwise they would lose touch.

  • Tasks of the project can be divided between the group members and can be done efficiently.

  • In case anyone needs help, they can assist the team member as everyone is working towards the same goal.

  • Regular meetings can be held to check the flow of the project.

  • Different ideas can be presented by different members and we can learn from one another.

  • It is important for everyone to be on the same page with the goal of the project or it could go in a different direction.

Part 2

Reflecting on Methods of Inquiry

Primary Method-

For primary method of inquiry, I carried out an interview with my friend and my mother's friend. While using this method, I kept in mind the tips that were given by my tutors.

Examples-

1. Semi-structured Interview-

This method of inquiry was carried out by us in the pre work of Phase 2 of this project.

2. Ergonomic Study-

While carrying out the ergonomic study for this project, I took help from my family members so that the actual use of the project is not manipulated.

Benefits-

  • It helped me in understanding the use of the product even better with the personal experience of each user.

  • The information given by the user was unique and reliable.

  • This source of information can be fully trusted.

Limitations-

  • This source of inquiry cannot be accessed at any time.

  • It needs to be carried out carefully.

  • Carrying out this process of inquiry requires a lot of preparation.

Secondary Method-

For this method of inquiry, I searched the data that already existed and made inferences on the basis of it.

Examples-

1. Internet

To understand the timeline of the given product, we searched the internet to gather information about the history of the product.

Benefits-

  • This information can be accessed anytime.

  • It is easier to find and is available in large quantity.

  • This process can be done faster as no preparation is required.

Limitations-

  • Information available on the internet cannot always be trusted.

  • Information available from secondary sources can be outdated.

  • A large variety of information can sometimes be contradictory and confuse the person gathering it.

Relation between different tasks

The timeline made by the group for our product, helped us in drawing inferences and understanding what are the factors that influenced the design of the product. Together as a group, we were able to find out what changes were made throughout the years and why was it necessary.

With the User Object Association task, we were able draw inferences about how the user has shared their experience with the product. With a semi structured interview, I was able to understand the similarities and differences of both the consumers in how they use the same product.

Part 3

Reflecting on the application of various tools and techniques

Visual tools help in better understanding of the task. It helps the viewer stay engaged to the text as it is easier for them to imagine what they are reading. In this task, the visual tools helped me in understanding the contact of the object with the user.

Part 4

Part 5

Self Reflection

  • The timeline part of the project helped me in understanding the project in how the need of the object arise and what changes took place on its journey.

  • The ergonomic study helped me in understanding all the various aspects that are required to be considered for the design of the object.

  • While working on this project, as a group I was able to lead it and allot the members a specific task.

  • I also realized that I can collect information from different websites and organise it in a systematic way.

  • I would improve my isometric drawing for the details of the object by practicing the isometric type of drawing on various other objects.

  • Another area of improvement for me would be to draw correct inferences.

  • By taking help from the rest of my group members and discussion, I can make changes in my own work if I have misunderstood a term/brief.

Biggest Takeaway-

My biggest takeaway from this project would be to trust the process. I realized that every task has a bigger reason behind it and is a bridge to the final task.
